The first step of the character creation process is choosing a race to play as. In total, there are seven races in the game.
Amani (Male), Amani (Female), Baraka (Genderless), Castanic (Female), Castanic (Male), High Elf (Female), High Elf (Male), Human (Female), Human (Male), Popori (Male only), Elin (Female only)
All races can play all classes. Outside of cosmetic differences, different races have different hitboxes. A smaller race might be harder to hit in PvP, but at the same time it will have more trouble receiving heals, as they are easily hidden by boss monsters or in large crowds. On top of visual and hitbox differences, each race (except the Elin and Popori, who share the same abilities) has unique Racial Abilities. They are follows.
Human
Expert Duelist (Active): For 3 minutes, it will lower the chance of reactive abilities (when you knock someone down, they won’t be able to recover immediately) during PVP by 50%.
Will of Humans (Passive): When your HP goes below 30% you will take 10% less damage during PVP.
Diligence (Passive): It takes 10% less time to craft Light Armor.
Castanic
Runic Awakening (Active): When in combat your movement speed will be increased by 35 for 3 minutes. When attacked your attack speed will be slowed for a short period of time and after the movement speed buff will be canceled.
Master of Ambush (Passive): When attacking from behind, your critical chance is increased by 1%.
Acrobatic (Passive): Decreases fall damage by 50%.
Aman
Veteran Fighter (Active): For 30 seconds, lowers the chance to get knocked down / paralyzed by 70%.
Descendant of Davan (Passive): When your HP goes below 30%, your defense increases.
Strength (Passive): Increased chance to resist status ailments.
Popori/Elin
Friend of Nature (Active): When used before you are in combat, you will not be attacked first by monsters for a minute. It cannot be activated during combat, and disappears if you enter it or use another skill.
Joy of traveling (Active): When used, your out of combat movement speed is increased for three minutes.
Child of the Lake (Passive): Swimming speed increased by 50%.
Baraka
Nature Fuse (Active): Instantly heal 100% of your maximum HP.
Optimist (Passive): The lowest your vitality can go is 20%, instead of 0%.
Keeping Calm (Passive): Increased chance to resist slows.
High Elf
Activate Core (Active): Instantly restore 100% of your maximum MP.
Core’s Blessing (Passive): When resurrected, you get an MP regeneration buff.
Essence Collector (Passive): You gather plants 15% faster.

Unless you’re going to be focusing on PvP or plan on playing a tanking class the race you choose really has no effect on the game. Most active Racial Abilities are on hour-long cooldowns, and as such the passives are really what’s going to matter in the long run. I’ve translated the Race Selection screen, which you can see below.
After you choose a race, you’re ready to pick a class and make your character.
